Ernie Johnson Gives His Emmy Award To Stuart Scott's Daughters

TNT broadcaster Ernie Johnson won the Sports Emmy for Outstanding Studio Host on Tuesday night, but he didn't hold onto the industry's highest honor for very long.

Saying "this belongs with Stuart Scott," the veteran sportscaster presented the trophy to the daughters of the longtime ESPN anchor, who died earlier this year at the age of 49 after a battle with cancer.

"It all started with Stuart," Johnson said, according to The Sporting News.

Then, he called Taelor and Sydni Scott to the stage.

"This is your Emmy," Johnson told them, according to the New York Daily News.

Johnson is a three-time Emmy winner who was treated for non-Hodgkin's lymphoma from 2003-2006.

Scott, who had worked for ESPN since 1993, was honored during a separate segment of the ceremony featuring many of his colleagues at the sports network. Known for using colorful phrases such as "booyah!" Scott also became an inspirational figure as he fought the disease that would ultimately claim his life.

“When you die, it does not mean that you lose to cancer," Scott said last year when accepting the Jimmy V Perseverance Award at ESPN's ESPYs ceremony. "You beat cancer by how you live, why you live, and in the manner in which you live. So live. Live. Fight like hell. And when you get too tired to fight, lay down and rest and let somebody else fight for you."
